17th December

I do not want to give anything away too soon; but the theme is the same all the way to Christmas Day!

    In a blitz game, I would have played 1. Rxf7+ without hesitation. 1..Kxf7 2.Qe7+, Kg8 3.d7 looks nasty. But then 1..Rxf7 2. Qe5+, Kg8 3. e7, Rxh4 is probably a refutation!
Another idea is 1.d7 and if 1…Rxf6 comes 2.d8Q!, Rxd8 3.Qh6+ and mate in next. If 1…Qb8 2.Rxd4, exd4 3.Qxd4 must be winning

    58. Qe7? Qb3 59. Rxf5 Nxf5 60.Qe5+ Kg8 61. Nf6+ Kf8 62. Nd7+ Kg8 63. Nf6+ Kf8 1/2-1/2

    The winning line goes like this: 58. d7! Rxf6 59. d8=Q Re6!? (59… Rxd8 60. Qh6+ Kg8 61. Nxf6#) 60. Rxd4! Rxd8 (60… Rxe3 61. Qf6+) 61. Qh6+ and wins.
