Stabbing John in the chest with guilt

John just received this e-mail:

Dear John,

I pre-ordered your book “King’s gambit” last autumn for my son as a Christmas present. Do you know when it will be published?

Regards,
xxx

  1. Dear xxx, the book will never be published as of course the King’s Gambit is known to be busted from three decades. Please contact John Shaw at number XXXXXXXXXX to ask for a refund.

    Best Regards

    Garry K.

  2. Actually, at the printer in about two weeks is the latest prediction. And the King’s Gambit remains unbusted “Garry K.”

  3. Stabbed in the chest? That must hurt. But like my dear old Dad used to say, just think about how good it will feel when it stops hurting!

    Jacob 🙂

    Yesterday I’ve finished studying your top-notch book! An outstanding work with excellent and very clear presentation!

    Please look at my results and do comment if you wish! I’m struggling to achieve 2100 in near future!

    GENERAL STATISTICS = 110 exercises; test points 106/330; success ratio 32% 🙁

    DIFFICULTY of exercises: 3 points (1 point for first move, 2 points for further strong move, 3 points for full solution)

    DETAILED STATISTICS per chapters:

    1. Bring all your Toys to the Nursery Party – exercises 8 – test points 5/24 – percent 21%;
    2. Don’t lose your Breath – exercises 8 – test points 3/24 – percent 13%;
    3. Add some Colour to your Play – exercises 8 – test points 11/24 – percent 46%;
    4. Size Matters! – exercises 8 – test points 3/24 – percent 13%;
    5. Hit’em where it hurts – exercises 8 – test points 9/24 – percent 38%;
    6. Chewing on Granite – exercises 4 – test points 3/12 – percent 25%;
    7. Evolution/Revolution – exercises 8 – test points 6/24 – percent 25%;
    8. 15 Great Attacking Games – exercises 8 – test points 9/24 – percent 38%;
    9. Watch Yourself take the Next Step – exercises 50 – test points 57/150 – percent 38%.

    Currently I’m working on GM Preparation Positional Play! I like the book very much.

    Keep the good work going 🙂

  5. Quality chess is the best. Im a bit sad that i didn bought hardcovers (Karolis both Karpov strategic wins, Weteschnik Chess tactics from scratsh and Schandorffs Caro kann, because now when I own Aagaards Calculation, Positional play and Strategy can only say that enjoy not only in content but also hard cover, very nice design). Keep on good work. There is so few good books on middle game, but your company is making a huge progress on this chapter of chess.

  6. LE BRUIT QUI COURT

    Jacob, do you have plans to make second edition of Grandmaster Repertoire 7 – The Caro-Kann by Lars Schandorff?

    I’m asking because you haven’t got available hardcover. And besides perhaps there is a room for some small improvement!

    Can you sincerely tell me how wise it is to include Caro Kann into black armoury, besides 1…e5 and French?

    Thanks.

  7. @ LE BRUIT QUIO COURT what is your result of Positional play exercises? Im 2100 player and managed to solve exercises on theme weaknesses aprox 65%. I gave my self a point for each exercise I found the first move and the idea. Of course, its impossible to get to the end of variations of each exercise and of course 0 points if I found the idea but wrong move order or completly found something different.

    Cant wait to finish second chapter, on pieces and to see result of solving exercises of this theme.

    Good luck.

    @k.r.
    Please remember there is a difference between a convincing proof in the solutions and what you need to see/understand in a game in order to make the right decision.

    Sent to the printer is one thing; it takes 2-3 weeks before it is then printed.

    If we assume that King’s Gambit book was sent to the printer, when should it be released by Quality Chess? I mean when people would be able to buy it. Is the end of June might be quite real schedule (date)? Many people would be quite interested in looking for ANY refutation of any variation covered at this great book! Who knows? Maybe we will see KG played at many tournaments?! 😉 🙂

      Not sent yet, but early next week looks reasonable. Turnover time 2-3 weeks. Not saying it is four weeks away, but it could be.
