New Cover: Boris Gelfand – Decision making in Major Piece Endings

August 12th, 2020 13 comments

Boris feels strongly that this cover reflects the spirit of the book better, so we followed his intuition.

The previous copperish colors didn’t work, so I went with silver, to make sure the face is the focal point of the whole cover and not just of the great photo that Maria Emelianova took.

Changes in shipping fees and a new Special Offer

August 6th, 2020 5 comments

Dear customers,

I do not know how many of you have noticed, but we had some small changes in shipping fees.

For more than ten years we have kept the prices in shipping fees steady, despite the increases.

In the past 3-4 months, Royal Mail in the UK and US Post Office have significantly raised their prices, courier services as well, flights are still not resumed in many places in the world. We apologize, but we need to charge a bit extra for shipping.

It’s not just an increase in the price though, it comes with improving the service; we are shipping more and more parcels with courier services so, in many cases, we can now provide tracking numbers and the books will get to you much faster. Applying flat international shipping saves your and our time with back and forth emails for postage enquires, leaving time to process the orders faster. We have also unified the charges for all European countries.
Here, you can see the new shipping fees.

Coffeehouse Repertoire 1.e4 by Gawain Jones

August 4th, 2020 44 comments

Hello again, with another debate for a new book cover!

Did you know that Gawain was working on these books? Well, now you do 🙂

After our previous debate for Sam Shankland’s Small Steps 2 Success, once again we ask for your input for this cover. We are settled on the color scheme and on the cover for volume 2, as you can see on the top left corner. Which one would you prefer for volume one? And which one you definitely don’t want to see on the cover?

The Italian Renaissance – Published August 26 – Excerpts now

July 30th, 2020 21 comments

Both volumes of The Italian Renaissance by Martyn Kravtsiv – Move Orders, Tricks & Alternatives and The Main Lines –will be published on August 26.

Volume I covers the Bishop’s Opening (1.e4 e5 2.Bc4) and the Petroff Defence (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6). An excerpt is here.

Volume II covers the Italian Game (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4). An excerpt is here.

Taken together, these books show how White can challenge 1.e4 e5 with lots of creative new Italian ideas. I edited these books, so I know how much amazing chess they contain – plenty of Ukrainian GM human cleverness, not just deep computer analysis.

I hope you like them when you see them, with the two excerpts now just a brief taster.

Cover: Boris Gelfand – Decision making in Major Piece Endings

We know we just published some amazing books, but the work never stops here in Quality Chess. Of course, I am not an editor. My contribution is different and I do love the process of creating covers for these amazing books. Special thanks to©️ChessBase India/Amruta Mokal for the photo.

If everything goes according to plan, in September you will be able to get both the two new Gelfand books. For those of you that this is the first time hearing about these books, click here for the Decision making in Major Piece Endings and here for the Technical Decision Making in Chess.

Free ‘Book of the Month’ – July and August

July 2nd, 2020 8 comments

We are continuing our free-fourth-book offer – if you buy three books or more and live in the normal European Union zone (as defined by UPS – for example, they exclude some islands and remote areas) we will send you an extra book free. This seems like a good time for a reminder that we will publish three new titles on July 15.

Please note that if you buy a Special Offer and are in the EU zone, we will add one free book. For example, if a European buys the Special Offer on our award-winning Grandmaster Preparation series, then we would send the 6 hardcovers, plus one free extra book.

The previous default option on the free book was The Alterman Gambit Guide – Black Gambits Volume 2 . For July and August we will switch the default option to Luther’s Chess Reformation. But if you already have that book, or would prefer a different free book, then send us an email to salesgroup@qualitychess.co.uk with your order, asking to have it replaced with one of the following titles:

ATTACKING THE SPANISH
CARLSEN’S ASSAULT ON THE THRONE
CHAMPIONS OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM
CUTTING EDGE 1: THE OPEN SICILIAN
CUTTING EDGE 2: SICILIAN NAJDORF 6.Be3
GRANDMASTER BATTLE MANUAL
GRANDMASTER REPERTOIRE 7 – THE CARO-KANN (HB)
GRANDMASTER VERSUS AMATEUR
REGGIO EMILIA 2007/2008
THE ALTERMAN GAMBIT GUIDE – WHITE GAMBITS
THE ALTERMAN GAMBIT GUIDE – BLACK GAMBITS VOLUME 1
THE ALTERMAN GAMBIT GUIDE – BLACK GAMBITS VOLUME 2
SAN LUIS 2005
