As many off you know by now, Quality Chess Academy is having it first camp in less than two months away; GMs Gelfand and Aagaard, 4-10/11 on Crete, in case you you’ve missed it.
What we noticed is that it collides with Schachbundesliga and 4NCL on the 10th of November.
So, for those ones that are interested in participating in the camp, but haven’t registered yet, due to your commitment to your teams, we can offer a proportional discount on the participation fee. That way, you can still make it to both events, since you need to head back home earlier.
Yes, you will miss the party on the last night but you will have lots of fun during the week, as you can see on the schedule 🙂

Jacob’s academy on Crete in November now has a live website with the possibility of registration. At the moment the camp is sponsored by American Chess Magazine and Quality Chess. It offers a chance to train with grandmasters Jacob Aagaard and Boris Gelfand at around €1000 for a week, all-inclusive, depending on which room and which view you are attracted to!
We are continuing our special offer – if you buy three books or more and live in the normal European Union zone (as defined by UPS – for example, they exclude some islands and remote areas) we will send you an extra book free.
Please note that if you buy a Special Offer and are in the EU zone, we will add one free book. For example, the Grandmaster Preparation Special Offer is 6 hardbacks for the price of 5. So if a European buys that, we send Jacob’s 6 GM Preparation hardbacks, plus one free extra book.
The previous default option on the free book was Grandmaster Battle Manual. For August and September we will switch the default option to ATTACKING THE SPANISH. But if you already have that book, or would prefer a different free book, then send us an email to salesgroup@qualitychess.co.uk with your order, asking to have it replaced with one of the following titles:
CHAMPIONS OF THE NEW MILLENNIUM
CARLSEN’S ASSAULT ON THE THRONE
GRANDMASTER BATTLE MANUAL
GRANDMASTER VERSUS AMATEUR
POSITIONAL CHESS SACRIFICES
REGGIO EMILIA 2007/2008

Just a little update. We have an agreement with a hotel 15 minutes from Heraklion Airport. It is an all-inclusive hotel, with nice rooms, swimming pools, beach access and so on. I hope we will be able to launch a website within a week and start accepting entries. Read more…
At some point in the next couple of months we will need to print more copies of Small Steps to Giant Improvement by Sam Shankland. We are delighted with the book, but what did you think of it? Did you see something we should change/correct?
As you will guess, after the blog readers’ suggestions on what we should correct when reprinting Playing 1.e4 e5 (thanks for that) we are once again asking for help.
On a wholly unrelated topic, my pre-World Cup prediction was that England would win the Cup (this is football not chess). I was half-joking to Jacob, but if it turns out be correct then I will claim full credit.
We have sent off the Woodpecker method to the printer on Wednesday. We have to unscramble our brains and work out what that means regarding the publication date, especially after a personal change with our printer, meaning some things have to be relearned there. But it is coming and it is coming soon. The final page count is 392 pages, but as you should go through it many times, by design, it is much more than this!
We need to reprint Nikos Ntirlis’s fine book Playing 1.e4 e5. Whenever we reprint a book, we of course take the opportunity to correct any errors we missed the first time. So, do you know of any errors in Playing 1.e4 e5 that we should fix?
Please note that we are reprinting, not updating to the present day or writing a new edition. So “Instead of the Breyer, Nikos should cover the Zaitsev” is not a helpful correction.
We have tried asking the blog for title suggestions, so why not for error-spotting? Call it an experiment.
With our new leaflet of planned publications we have revealed the books we are expecting to put out the next nine months. Three of the books in the series of Classics have been translated and will come out slowly. One of them is The Science of Strategy by Kotov. We tried to get a better title from you guys, but I for once you let us down and did not come up with something better (according to us).
So, here is the question: Do you have a better idea for the book about Geller’s games than Killer Chess? This is the cover. The title can be changed.
As always, if you suggest a title that we use, we will put your name on page 2 in the book and send you a free copy.
