World Cup 2019 – Quality Chess Quiz – The Answers

The World Cup ended a week or so back, so it’s time for results of our Quiz. Sorry for the delay – we were busy finishing books.

Below are what we believe to be the correct answers to all the questions. Before we assess your entries, and then declare a winner, let’s check that all the answers below are true. Any disagreements or ambiguities? The only debate I know about is Question 17, where Vitiugov and Grischuk were both knocked out in the Quarterfinals, but it seems to me that Vitiugov went further, as he lasted to the Armageddon stage.

  1. I’m to lazy to go through and check all of the answers and am happy to accept the answers above as the judges final decision – I agree with the answer to question 17, though it will cost me a point.

My guesses earned me a respectable 6 points – I suspect the winning score could be quite low. Just a pity for my score that Ding lost the final, Xiong bet Duda and Grishuck didn’t make it to the armageddon game.

  2. Hi
any word on the winner yet? My best score yet with 9 (doesn’t say much) but doubt that will be in the top 50. Be good to know the winning score too

    Thanks for another quiz though!
