Christmas Eve

In some countries the presents are opened on Christmas Eve, in others 1-2 days later. Luckily every day is Christmas here on the QC blog. Now back to work Colin, Andrew and you, Mr Bob Cratchit!

    My first trial was 1. hxg5. White wins quickly after 1… Rh8 2. gxf6+ or 1… fxg6 2. Rxf8 Kxf8 3. Rf3+. After 1… Rxg5 I would love to play 2. Rf5, but then follows 2. Qxb2+ and black wins. So I have to search another move. 😉

    1. b4!! axb3 and now 2. hxg5 works!

    Happy Christmas!

You too. There are big details and variations, but this is the main point. JOF Nielsen – Danielsen, Kogo Oct 2013.

    Hmm… after 1. hxg5 Rxg5 I like 2.Rxf6 very much, but …Qxb2+ is annoying.
Therefor I would go for 1.b4!!, with the idea to follow with 2.hxg5.
    After 1..Rc3 2.hxg5 Txg3 3.gxf6+ Txf6 4.Qxb5 looks great.
