Alberto and his Books

The winner of our World Cup Quiz was of course Alberto Muniz Pardino. Alberto was kind enough to send us a photo of his book prizes, taken at his chess club in Hong Kong.

  1. Next quizz is : which are the 10 books choosen by Alberto ?
I would say the five at his left ( Kotronias to TITB ) and the five below

  2. The ten choosen by Alberto would haven been my choice as well – except that I already own four of them. Actually I also own one of the shelf warmers on the left (Grandmaster vs. Amateur) and quite like it as well.

    Congrats to the winner!

“Genius in the background” is very good and very underrated book in my opinion. I Got it by chance and was suprised that it did not get that much attention. Read it!

    Thank you Quality Chess!!

I have to say that the order of the books in the picture was not intentional! I started grouping them by series (and I think I put the Alterman books first). I have to say that besides the 10 selected I had a couple in my agenda that came in the lot, so especially happy!

I knew Genius in the Background as I was working in Singapore (not simultaneously with Karolyi but we met a few times) and I especially admire Nadanian. Grandmaster vs Amateur was in my club already. Secret Life of Bad Bishops seems a very original one…

By 2050 I might have had time to finish all them and give you a more sound opinion!

    Pinpon :
By the way , it seems incredible that there are only 19 ( rated ? ) players in Hong-Kong

I don’t know where you got that data from. Our level is very low but the number of rated players should be near 200 at least
