Vlog 11 – Nikos meets GM Stelios Halkias

In this weeks vlog, the experienced Greek GM Stelios Halkias talks a bit about his favourite Quality Chess books and gives to our viewers practical advice on various aspects of chess. It is the kind of things that led Stelios to perform over 2700 elo in the latest Baku Olympiad. He then goes on to show us one of his favourite positions from this Olympiad and gives us a tactical puzzle to solve which the great Nigel Short failed to do when shown!

  1. Is the straightforward …Qxg2+ in the initial position winning too, presumably? Swapping queens (with Re1/Re2), and pawns up.
Note the N-fork on f4 indirectly protecting the h-pawn.
(That’s in my head, not on a PC, trying to solve as in a game – so things could be askew…!).

  2. This is maybe my favorite quality chess video. I really enjoyed it.
GM Stelios Halkias gave some nice informations for improvement and he is very entertaining as well.
I will read Learn from the legends again. I also like that he likes Nikos repertoire with the Breyer which I love to work with.
Looking forward to more work with GM Halkias!
