Boris Gelfand Q & A – delay and time to ask more questions

Sorry guys, it has been really really hard for Boris and myself to get our calendars to work in tune. The time we have had has all gone towards finishing Dynamic Decision Making in Chess which will go to the printer tomorrow and be out on August 31. (The exception is that it will be on sale at Copenhagen Open at the end of July, where Boris and I will give a lecture).

So, what is happening is this: Boris and I will go through all the questions at Copenhagen Open, in front of a video camera and we will post a video then. You can ask us questions all the way till the 24th of July. I will look through them after then and we will spend probably up to an hour doing the Q & A at the tournament, as well as some footage from the lecture.

I am trying all I can for you guys, but it has not been possible. But in July it definitely will be.

  1. Dear Boris,

What is the best way for a player rated 2400-2450 to improve? I really want to become a grandmaster. I’m busy on weekdays, although I can still manage to put in 2-3 hours every day, and have the entire weekend too.

I’ve worked on Jacob’s calculation books, done a bit of strategic/positional play, and they have helped me a lot. What would be the best way to improve myself from this stage?

  2. Thank you for taking your time to ensure you do a great job on the book and also the Q&A. I’m sure that it is appreciated greatly by all your blog readers and also your wider audience of book readers.

  3. It is great news we would be able to watch GREAT Boris Gelfand answering the questions. I strongly believe all the fans will be delighted!

Question to Boris: “How do you manage to cut off from the problems not related to chess – when you are working on chess and when you are playing at tournaments?”

  4. Dear Boris,

What would you consider to be the most underestimated aspect of chess one could study? To be clear, something that is very beneficial for one’s chess, that a lot of aspiring GMs fail to do?

  5. Mark Crowther :
What’s the Forward Chess publication date for the new Gelfand book? I read the last one almost immediately and completely using the app.

We will follow our standard plan of Forward Chess one week before Quality Chess. So that’s 24 August FC, and 31 August QC.

  6. Boris I have heard many strong players say that progress comes sometimes very suddenly after periods of no or little progress. And that it cones in spurts. Have you noticed this in your own chess journey and if so, why do you think that is? Also, Jacob you’re doing a great job!

  7. @John Shaw
Thanks for uploading excerpt- looks great. Though I was wondering what on earth could be the siren that caused Boris to jump up and disappear for 10 mins? An ice cream van? Air raid siren?

  8. Hey,

I look forward to meet you both at Helsingør the 28. July.

While writing a blogpost I was thinking about how I spend a lot of time studying chess and use my (new) skills in one tournament with great succes and in the next play like a newbie with the ELO running up and down to follow.

How do you become more consistent in your results?

  9. QC team could have make a “QC Authors in Action” post concerning Boris’ domination in his match against the reigning European champion Inarkiev 😉
