GM2 out in the world! + updated Publishing Schedule

The first copies of GM2 have started to arrive various places. By luck, Niggemann seemed to get the books earlier than usual. People are telling us it is great – but we have not yet seen it!

We have moved a few things around in the publishing schedule, but with a new employee starting in two weeks, we hope that we will be able to keep those arbitrary deadlines now.

  1. i was wondering if you can give me a estimated time when d4 volume 2 will be in the u.s. i tried to find it but i cant so would it be easier to just order it from your site? thanks for your time john

  2. GM Repertoire 2 looks great, I can’t wait to pick up a copy! Can you say a little more about the Alterman Gambit book?

  3. Jacob Aagaard

    I am not absolutely sure how long it will take to the US. At times it is quite quick, at times not. I think this often comes down to local conditions more than anything else, as our nearest post office is one of the key post offices in Scotland.

  4. Ponting is a Legend

    It is 11.26 in Newcastle (200 km from QC office)…I will check mailbox soon…hopefully GM2 is there 🙂 — Have the books been shipped yet?

  5. @daniel

    daniel,

    If you ordered today, we would post it AirMail today. How long it takes to get to the US I am not exactly sure. Perhaps about a week. Our existing American customers will soon find out the correct answer, as we posted all web sales of GM 2 yesterday.

  6. Daniel Clancy

    @John Shaw
    I just found that the American branch of Chess & Bridge has it so I just ordered it in a group order from there with a few friends to save on 1 day shipping.

  7. What ever happend to The Complete Queen’s Indian Defence by Tapani Sammalvuo?
    Is it going to be published any time soon?
    Is it possible to get some more info on Ftacnic’s book (maybe an excerpt), regarding the lines he’ll be analysing?
    Is it correct that they’ll be a series on Cutting Edge ? Any excerpt/further info on that available?

  8. Hi,

    I’m just lobbying for a purchase link for the Caro-Kann book so I can buy it while I still have a little tax return money. Enjoying the new Avrukh book very much. Thanks!

  9. Hi,
    When Marin is done with the English books, could he please write his repertoire or simply a book about the Pirc and his responds to 1. d4? Thanks! I know he’s super man and can just whip them out in no time.

  10. Hi Jeremy, not novel ideas, of course. However, Mihail has some other projects coming up, so I don’t think it is about to happen just now. We could ask him to do a small book, of course, but that is what we did with the English. We asked for 128 pages!!

    haha I’ll leave the novel ideas up to him. And, in the case of asking for a small book and getting three volumes, well then, by all means let’s ask him for a small book. lol

  12. A question about the Scandinavian book. Will it recommend a repertoire with say 3…Qa5 or 2…Qd6 or a coveredge of both? If it is repertoire based, does Mr Bauer have any strong ideas in the main line:

    1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Qxd5 3. Nc3 Qa5 4. d4 Nf6 5. Nf3 Bf5 6. Bd2 c6 7. Bc4 e6 8.
    Nd5 Qd8 9. Nxf6+ gxf6 (I cannot imagine a revival of 9…Qxf6) 10. Bb3 Nd7 11. Qe2 Qc7 12. O-O-O O-O-O 13. Nh4 Bg6 14.
    g3 Kb8 and now 15.Kb1! as given by Gm Prie?

    Lot of people i know are looking forward to this book! I hope tgis will not delay!

  13. Hi,
    Alterman Gambit guide for white is soon to be published. But i would like to know, because you say : “This is not a high level theoretical work, but a true book for juniors and other players starting out.” if you think that it is possible for more advanced players (and also juniors) to have an updated more theoritical ? I don’t know may be games with comments or just a tree with variations. I think everyone should take advantage of it & should encourage more players to buy it, even if it should be great whithout but far interseting with ! Thanks

  14. Ponting is a Legend

    Is the publishing schedule accurate as of present, or is an update necessary? How is GM 7 going?

  15. @Ametanoitos
    The Scandinavian book is not a repertoire book. It will concentrate on 3…Qa5 not 3…Qd6. I can’t give details about new ideas just yet, but I have no doubt Christian Bauer is familiar with Eric Prie’s analysis – they are both French GMs and they have worked together in the past, I believe.

    @obiwanmichou
    If I understand correctly, a higher level book based on the gambit lines in Boris Alterman’s book? Not sure that would work. These gambits are a great way to learn how to play better chess when you are starting out (that’s the idea of the book), but I doubt they would stand up at GM level.

    @Ponting is a Legend
    GM7 is The Caro-Kann, if my sums are right. I am working on it. Perhaps a couple of weeks before it goes to the printer.

    @Markus
    We have no current plans for a Petroff book.

  16. Mr Aagaard, about the Caro-Kann book. Can you please tell us what variation does Mr Shandorff recommend in the main line 4…Bf5? I suppose it would be the Classical Qc7+O-O-O because there is the advertisment that the repertoire will stand the computer-aid preparation. Or does he recommend more modern lines with O-O? Is there any chance we could now the Panov recommndation also? I bet for e6+Be7

  17. Sorry, it seems that Mr Shaw was kind enough to answer my last question about the Bauer book and is working on GM rep 7, so this question goes to him i suppose.

  18. Hi Mr.Aagaard just wanna know what kind of sicilian variation will Mr.Ftacnik use against the english attack? Will it be the najdorf 6..e5 set-up or 6..e6?

  19. Caro-Kann will be out early May, same for Sicilian. 5…Nc6 in Panov. Modern 4…Bf5 lines – wait for the excerpt.

  20. Ponting is a Legend

    After doing some very heavy revision since the start of March, I have finished most of GM2 except Modern Defence and Minor Systems. Cannot wait for GM6 Sicilian 🙂

  21. Hi again Mr.Aagaard.Just wanna know what kind of sicilian variation will Mr.Ftacnik use against the english attack in his Book GM The sicilian Defence? Will it be the najdorf 6..e5 set-up or 6..e6?Very excited about the book.

  22. I am on holiday. I will update it when I am back. Cutting Edge and the Alterman Gambit Guide will be out on the 9th April.

  23. WOJO’s WEAPONS: WINNING WITH WHITE (VOLUME 1)
    “Titled players will find full, up-to-date theoretical coverage of all the lines presented. The book is packed with the authors’ own novelties and little-known ideas, and
    analysis of the Catalan given by GM Boris Avrukh in 1.d4 is updated and improved.”
    Improved Avrukh! it must be good!

  24. It sounds interesting that they admit they are using Avrukh’s work in a book on Wojo’s repertoire :-).

  25. Hi !
    Please, any news about the Caro-Kann book? Someone asked you before if the …Bf5 repertoire in the clasical line is based on variations with short castle or with long castle?

  26. Jacob Aagaard :
    Caro-Kann will be out early May, same for Sicilian. 5…Nc6 in Panov. Modern 4…Bf5 lines – wait for the excerpt.

    Very keen to see this book. Any news on when the excerpt will be up?
    Thanks.

  27. Jacob Aagaard

    Maybe two weeks, maybe three. In some sort of sabotaged the book by winning against Lars in the Caro-Kann in the Danish Championship.

  28. @Jacob Aagaard
    Yes, I saw that game where you beat Lars in the Advance Caro…..luckily for me, the standard of my opposition is going to be somewhat lower 😉
    I will certainly still buy the book. Can’t wait to find out more details. My main concern is whether Lars recommends kingside or queenside castling in the mainline after 4…Bf5…. Can it really hurt for us to know this now? Thanks and well played!

  29. Jacob Aagaard

    Obviously I did not win this game by opening preparation. In move 24, …Bc2 would have equalised completely.

  30. @John Shaw
    Yes, I second prody on this. Eagerly awaiting news on whether it’s kingside (I guess it is from ‘Modern’) or Queenside castling in the 4…Bf5 mainline. Oh, I seem to have said that before. More than once. 🙂 Looking forward to the excerpt.

  31. I will not put up excerpts that are not finished and proofread. It will give the wrong impression. But yes, Lars is playing the lines modernly, of course.

  32. Ponting is a Legend

    Yes, I think a schedule update is in order 🙂 Please include an approximation of GM8 as well! Cheers

  33. Michael LaRue

    Seventy-one days later my pre-ordered copy has finally shipped. Is that really an acceptable amount of time after your books are released for them to ship from most on-line websites?

  34. Jacob Aagaard

    Yes.

    The book was available for 71 days at full price in both Europe and the US. Those sites that want to pay us less and have the cheapest transport get the books later. We don’t delay them on purpose, but we are not unhappy about it. We do not provide full service to those seeking to buy at discount, it is not in the interest of us or our authors.

  35. Jacob Aagaard

    We have another book in the works that came back quite suddenly from the translator. We don’t want to sit on it, so we will focus on this first and do the update Tuesday or Wednesday.
