Attacking Manual 1+2, Boost your Chess 1 and GM Rep 2 release dates (finally)

We are working very hard. We have finished Attacking Manual 2 and only need to perform a final proofread before it goes to the printer. No problems with the 13th January publication date, last time I checked with them. We will also be sending two classics, My System and Questions of Modern Chess Theory for reprint in the near future. The same goes for Build up your Chess 2, which had run out. In that connection I should say that Boost your Chess 1 has been typeset and that only proofreading and correcting commas remains. It is on schedule for the 27th January publication, but would be pushed back 1-2 weeks, should we not be able to finish GM2 in time.

Because it is of course Boris Avrukh’s follow-up to his first 1.d4 repertoire, Grandmaster Repertoire 2 – 1.d4 volume 2, where he will consider all other replies than 1…d5, which everyone is always asking about. It has been more than one year in the making, but the author is in good shape still, and has sent the final update (last week). As Boris is not a fluent English speaker, time is pressing on GM John Shaw to make it all sound beautiful. The 27th January is still possible, but it might be sharp. It requires that we hand in the book the 8th of January to the printer, a time where some of us are still hung over…

As always, this is a list of what we think, hope and pray will happen. But life is tough and this is a lot of books (and Andrew will play Hastings and Jacob will continue on part time till the end of January, so John will have to do all the work!).

    It is hard to evaluate before we are far into the typesetting. I would think it is 400+ pages

    Wasn’t Marin’s book supposed to be out in February? Did he turn in another 700 page manuscript that needs chopping down!?

    He had to revise his plans for finishing the book. He is planning to hand in the last chapter early February, which means it will take maybe another two months to finish it.

    I read here http://www.chessvibes.com/reports/korchnoi-spassky-2-5-1-5-at-half-time/#more-20286 that Victor the Terrible is writing a book on the French. I hope that it is for Quality Chess.

    December 26th, 2009 at 21:15 | #14

    Will there be a second edition of Avrukh’s GM repertoire vol.1 ? Also when will there be a GM repertoire based on 1. e4 and what will it’s choices be regarding openings?

    Thanks.

    @TonyRo

    “The 27th January is still possible, but it might be sharp. It requires that we hand in the book [GM Rep 2] the 8th of January to the printer…”–How is the translation coming along so far?

    Hey Nic you sound like you need GM Rep 2 pretty bad……….I must say I’m the same I have studied GM Rep 1 a lot and a happy with my repertoire against 1…d5 but I’m trying to play Fianchetto Sytems v Indian Defences without really knowing the most testing moves. So I’m with you. Pleeeeaaaaase bring it out on the 27th with no delays!!

    @Nic and Nick

    Dont’t you think it might be quite annoying
    for the publishers to answer your answers?
    You sound like children, waiting nervously for
    their birthday present…
    The book will come soon,
    in the meantime,
    you have to
    a) use other books
    b)THINK for yourself in the opening
    both should be manageable, at least for one two month…

    We will see how things work out. There are some problems with the printers, something with -15 degrees. Also, some idiot on the 2nd floor in our building set off the firealarm, so we had to spend an afternoon in the pub… All wastes of time. We are working as fast as we can, but 27th looks a week early at the moment.

    I’m as anxious as anyone to get GM Rep. 2 but rushed work is usually bad work. Take the time you need to get things right. It will be more important in the long-term.

    Dear USA,

    This is the way it goes when you want to buy on discount. Sometimes you get a lousy service. Amazon does not get the books at the same time as the books are published in Europe, and they announce them way too early. Their choice, not ours.

    You can find the book here: http://www.king-cart.com/USCFSales/product_name=Reggio+Emilie+-+2007+-+2008+-+B0018QT/exact_match=exact for example.
