Poll update – French Defence

People love the McCutchian it seems. I better look up how it is spelled!

    1. Not really. John is getting closer, though this week he is proof reading my book and maybe parts of Avrukh’s as well. The last week of any project we all pull together as a team to make it as close to perfect as we can.

  1. I’m interested to know what recommendation the French book will have against the Advanced Variation. I have numerous French books and, depending on the Author, the recommendations are different.

    Example:

    Simon Williams: 1, e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 c5 4. c3 Nc6 5. Nf3 Bd7 (followed by a quick f6)
    Nikita Vitiugov: 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 c5 4. c3 Qb6 5. Nf3 Nc6 (followed by Nh6 or Bd7)
    John Watson: 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 c5 4. c3 Nc6 5. Nf3 Qb6 (followed by Nh6 or Bd7)
    Dejan Antic/Branimir Maksimovic: 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 c5 4. c3 Nc6 5. Nf3 Bd7
    Neil McDonald: 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. e5 b6 4. c3 Qd7

Is there a particular line the French Defense book will focus on against the Advanced?

  2. Gilchrist is a Legend

Someone on ChessPub mentioned that Carlsen played 7…0-0 yesterday, and drew. Maybe revitalisation of the 7…0-0 Winawer? In any case I always have thought that this line deserves more consideration in any upcoming French repertoire books :D. He played the 8…f5 line, and I would prefer to play as Black in that game.

Perhaps a poll on QC blog as the question, “Which Winawer line would you prefer to play?” with options 7…Qc7, 7…0-0, 7…cxd4, 7…Kf8, 6…Qc7, 6…Qa5, 5…Ba5, 4…Ne7, 4…b6, 4…Qd7, etc.
